Millat Industries and UD Team Up for Energy Audit
January 31, 2017
Millat Industries teamed up with the University of Dayton’s Industrial Assessment Center (UD IAC) to perform an Energy Audit of our Kettering, Ohio, facility. The goal was to perform a complete Lean Energy Analysis of our energy use and identify potential opportunities for reduction in energy use, peak power demand, and operating cost. Similar to the well-known principles of Lean Manufacturing, Lean Energy Analysis identifies and attempts to eliminate any energy use that does not directly add value to the product or the plant environment. This type of endeavor is important to our customers, community, and company. The assessment identified 10 recommendations, ranging from HVAC improvements, lighting upgrades, automated controls, and compressed air generation, storage, and usage.
A team of faculty and graduate students involved in the Renewable and Clean Energy Master’s Program at the University of Dayton performed the audit. UD IAC performed this work under contract with the Advanced Manufacturing Office of the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Division of the U.S. Department of Energy.
