Waste – What is it???

The terms “Waste” or “Muda” are thrown around constantly inside a manufacturing facility and at continuous improvement meetings – but what is it exactly? These discussions typically revolve around some type of manufacturing process, but the reality is that waste can be present in any process or system in a company. So why limit our understanding of waste to only the manufacturing teams? We decided that we needed to formally train ALL of our associates on the 8 forms of deadly waste that can be found in ANY process. We enlisted Jeff Cole from JCG to perform a training session on the forms of waste and how to identify them. Now our entire organization is aware of these wastes and can continue to work towards their reduction or elimination.
